Before you begin (Electronic)  
Become familiar with some terms you will be seeing throughout this feature guide:
 
  • Special Dial Tone
Three beep tones followed by steady dial tone. Lets you know that you can proceed with feature activation.
   
  • Confirmation Tone
Three short bursts of tone followed by silence. Lets you know that you have successfully activated a feature.

RECEIVING A CALL:

Instructions:

  • You hear ringing. DN Diamond Indicator flashes slowly.
  • Press DN key. (Display: calling number)
  • Lift handset and answer the call. DN Diamond Indicator turns on.

PLACING A CALL: (with handset on-hook)

Instructions:

  • Press DN key.
  • Associated Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • You hear dial tone through speaker.

VOLUME CONTROL lets you increase or decrease the loudness of ring.

To Activate:

  • While phone is ringing, press VOL UP or VOL DOWN key.
  • When desired volume is reached, press VOL UP and VOL DOWN keys simultaneously to lock in volume level.

HOLD lets you hold an existing call.

To Activate:

  • Press HOLD key. DN Diamond Indicator for existing call flashes. Call is held.

To Return To Held Call:

  • Press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator.

AUTOMATIC HOLD lets you automatically hold an existing call in order to place or receive another call. You are able to move back and forth between the two calls.

To Place Another Call:

  • Press and idle DN key.
  • This Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.
  • DN Diamond Indicator of original call flashes.
  • You hear dial tone.
  • Dial the number.
  • When the call is completed, press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator to return to held call.

To Answer Another Call:

  • You hear a short buzz through the speaker.
  • Press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator.
  • Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.
  • You are connected to the second call.
  • Original call is held; its LCS flashes quickly.
  • When second call is completed, press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator to return to held call.

LISTEN ON HOLD allows you, when put on hold by another person, to hang up and listen through the loudspeaker for the other person to reestablish the call, then reaccess the call.

To Activate:

  • Press HOLD key after you're placed on hold.
  • DN Diamond Indicator flashes quickly.
  • Hang up.
  • Press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator.
  • Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.
  • When you hear other person's voice through speaker, lift handset and continue conversation.

CALL TRANSFER lets you send a call to another phone or to the attendant.

To Activate:

  • Press TRANSFER or CONF3 or 3WC key.
  • DN Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • TRANSFER Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial number to which call will be transferred. You hear ringing.*
  • Press TRANSFER key then RLS key.
  • Both Diamond Indicators turn off.

THREE WAY CALLING CONFERENCE allows you to add a third person to your call.

To activate:

  • Press TRANSFER, CONF3, or 3WC key.
  • TRANSFER Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial number. You hear ringing.
  • When third party answers, you are able to speak privately.
  • Press TRANSFER key to connect all three parties.
  • TRANSFER Diamond Indicator turns off. DN Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • Press RLS key if you want to exit the conference. The other two parties remain connected only if one party is still on campus.

CONSULTATION HOLD lets you put a call on hold while you speak privately to another party. You do not have to use a second line.

To Activate:

  • Press TRANSFER, CONF3 or 3WC key.
  • TRANSFER Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • DN Diamond Indicator flashes quickly.
  • You hear special dial tone. (See Note 1)
  • Dial new number.
  • You hear ringing. When party answers, you can speak privately. (See Note 2)
  • To return to original party, press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator.

Note 1: You can move back and forth between the two calls by alternately pressing the flashing DN key and the TRANSFER or CONF3 key.

Note 2: *To return to original call of number is busy or does not answer.

  • Press RLS key.
  • Press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator. DN Diamond Indicator turns on steadily.

AUTOMATIC DIALING lets you program one frequently called number that will be automatically dialed when you press a single key.

To Program:

  • Without lifting handset, press AUTO DIAL key.
  • AUTO DIAL Diamond Indicator flashes quickly.
  • Dial the number you want to program.
  • Press AUTO DIAL key again. Diamond Indicator turns off.

To Activate:

  • Press any idle DN. DN Diamond Indicator turns on. You hear dial tone.
  • Press AUTO DIAL key. You hear ringing. Lift handset.

CALL FORWARDING lets you temporarily send your incoming calls to another phone or to the attendant.

To Activate:

  • Without lifting the handset, press CALL FWD key.
  • CALL FWD Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • Dial number to which calls will be forwarded.
  • Press CALL FWD key again. CALL FWD Diamond Indicator turns on.

To Cancel:

  • Press CALL FWD key.
  • CALL FWD Diamond Indicator turns off.

To Reactivate to the Same Number:

  • Press CALL FWD key twice.
  • CALL FWD Diamond Indicator flashes momentarily then turns on steadily.

CALL PARK lets you hold a call against a DN on your set, then reconnect to it from any phone within your system.

To Activate:

  • Press CALL PARK key.
  • CALL PARK Diamond Indicator turns on. You hear conformation tone.
  • CALL PARK and DN Diamond Indicators turn off.

To Reconnect:

  • Lift handset of any phone in your system.
  • Activate Call Park. You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial number against which call is parked. You are connected to the call.

CALL PICKUP lets you answer a ringing phone within your designated pickup group without knowing the number or leaving your desk.

To Activate:

  • Press any idle DN key and lift the handset.
  • DN Diamond Indicator turns on. You hear dial tone.
  • Press CALL PICKUP key. You are connected to the call.

CALL WAITING alerts you, while you are on a call, that another call is waiting. You hear a call waiting tone; the second caller hears ringing. You are able you hold the first call and answer the second call.

To Hold First Call:

  • Press CALL WAITING key.
  • CALL WAITING Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • DN Diamond Indicator flashes quickly. First call is automatically held.
  • You are connected to the waiting call

To Reconnect to First Call:

  • Press DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator.
  • Second call is automatically held.
  • You can continue to alternate between the two calls.

To Disconnect From Either Call:

  • Press RLS key while connected to that call.

CONFERENCE CALLING lets you arrange conference calls from your phone for a specified number of people and yourself.

To Add More People to a Call:

  • Press CONF key.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • CONF Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • DN LDC flashes, indicating first call is held.
  • Dial number of person to be included in conference.
  • You hear ringing. When person answers, you can speak privately.
  • Press CONF again to include this person in the conference. All parties are connected.

Note: If you call a number that is busy or does not answer, press RLS key; then press DN key to the flashing Diamond Indicator to return to the conference.

GROUP INTERCOM lets you use abbreviated dialing to call another person in you intercom group.

To Activate:

  • Press I/C GROUP key.
  • I/C GROUP Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • You hear dial tone through the speaker.
  • Dial the code assigned to the phone you want to reach.
  • You hear ringing through the speaker.
  • Lift handset.

To Answer:

  • You hear ringing.
  • I/C GROUP Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • Press I/C GROUP key.
  • Diamond Indicator turns on. You can hear the caller through the speaker.
  • Lift handset to have a two-way conversation.

LAST NUMBER REDIAL lets you call the last number you dialed on that DN by entering a short access code or *82. Each time you dial a new number, it overrides the previously stored number.

To Activate:

  • Press DN key.
  • DN Diamond Indicator turns on. You hear dial tone.
  • Dial the Last Number Redial access code *82.
  • The last number you dialed is automatically redialed.

MAKE SET BUSY lets you temporarily make your phone appear busy to incoming calls, with the exception of Intercom calls and Private Business line calls.

To Activate:

  • Press MAKE BUSY key once.
  • MAKE BUSY Diamond Indicator turns on.

To Deactivate:

  • Press MAKE BUSY key.
  • MAKE BUSY Diamond Indicator turns off.

MESSAGE WAITING provides an indication at your phone that you have a message at either a message center or at another station. The Call Request application lets you activate Message Waiting on another phone.

To Retrieve a Message:

  • Your MESSAGE WAITING Diamond Indicator is on.
  • Lift handset. You hear dial tone. DN Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • Dial request retrieve code #71. You hear ringing.
  • When other party answers, retrieve messages.

To Place a Call Request:

  • The number you have dialed is busy or does not answer.
  • Press CALL TRANSFER key. You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial Call Request activation code *71. You hear conformation tone.

To Cancel All Call Requests Placed Against Your Phone:

  • Your MESSAGE WAITING Diamond Indicator is on.
  • Lift handset. You hear dial tone. DN Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • Dial Call Requestee deactivation code *73. You hear conformation tone.
  • MESSAGE WAITING Diamond Indicator turns off.

PRIVACY RELEASE allows others who share your DN in a single call arrangement to join your call.

To Activate:

  • Press PRIV RLS key.
  • DN Diamond Indicator flashes quickly. (All Diamond Indicators associated with that DN on other phones would also flash.
  • Ask a person who shares your DN to join the call.
  • That person presses DN key next to flashing Diamond Indicator and lifts handset. (All Diamond Indicators associated with the DN turn on steadily.)
  • Repeat process to add more people to call.

RING AGAIN. If you hear busy tone when calling someone on campus, this feature allows the system to notify you when the line becomes free ant to route the call for you automatically.

To Activate:

  • Press RING AGAIN key when you hear busy tone.
  • RING AGAIN Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • Replace handset. (You can continue to make or receive calls).
  • When called station becomes free, you hear a single burst of tone through the speaker.
  • RING AGAIN Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • Press any idle DN key and lift handset. DN Diamond Indicator turns on. You hear dial tone.
  • Press RING AGAIN key.
  • RING AGAIN Diamond Indicator turns off. You hear ringing as call is routed.

Note: Respond quickly to RING AGAIN notification. Otherwise, the call will be canceled within a short period of time.

To Cancel:

  • Press RING AGAIN key.
  • RING AGAIN Diamond Indicator turns off.

SPEED CALLING lets you use one or two digit codes to dial frequently called numbers.

To Program:

  • Without lifting handset, press SPEED CALL key.
  • SPEED CALL Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • Dial the one or two digit code, the telephone number, and #.
  • Press SPEED CALL key again.
  • Diamond Indicator turns off.

To Change:

  • Use programming procedure above. New number will be programmed over existing number.

To Delete:

  • Without lifting handset, press SPEED CALL key.
  • SPEED CALL Diamond Indicator flashes.
  • Dial one or two digit code and #.
  • Press SPEED CALL key again.
  • Diamond Indicator turns off.

To Activate:

  • Press any idle DN key.
  • DN Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • You hear dial tone through speaker.
  • Press SPEED CALL key.
  • SPEED CALL Diamond Indicator turns on.
  • Dial the one or two digit code for the number to be called. SPEED CALL Diamond Indicator turns off.
  • Lift handset when called party answers.

 

CODE ACCESS TO FEATURES lets you activate features that are not assigned to keys on your phone. Your Telecommunications Department can advise you if you can access any features by code. Program and activate code-accessed features exactly as you would program and activate features on a single line set, substituting TRANSFER key for any references to the LINK button or switchhook.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Your Electronic Telephone Set may be equipped with some features not covered in this guide. Your Telecommunication Department can provide you with instruction in their use.

CALL HOLD lets you hold a call in order to place another call or activate a feature.

To Activate:

  • You are on an active call: Press LINK or FLASH button once momentarily.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial call hold access *73.
  • You hear confirmation tone, followed by 10 seconds of dial tone.
  • You may now place another call or activate a feature.

To Retrieve Held Call:

  • Press LINK of FLASH button once momentarily. You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial call hold access code *73. You are connected to the original call.

CALL TRANSFER lets you send a call to another phone or to the attendant.

To Activate:

  • You are on an active call.
  • Press LINK or FLASH button once momentarily.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial number to which you are transferring the call.
  • You hear ringing.

(If you receive a busy signal or no answer, press LINK of FLASH twice to reconnect to the original call.) Hang up.

THREE-WAY CONFERENCE lets you add a third person to your call.

To Activate:

  • Press LINK or FLASH button to place original call on hold.
  • You hear special dial tone.
  • Dial third person’s number. (If you receive a busy signal or no answer, press LINK or FLASH twice to reconnect to original call.)
  • When person answers, press LINK or FLASH. All three are connected.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset. You hear dial tone.
  • Dial *70, you hear special dial tone.
  • Dial number to which calls are to be forwarded.
  • You hear confirmation tone.

To Cancel:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial #70.
  • You hear confirmation tone.

CALL PARK allows you to hold a call against your own extension number, then reconnect to the call from any phone within your system.

To Activate:

  • You are on an active call.
  • Press LINK or FLASH button to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial *77.
  • You hear confirmation tone.

To Retrieve Parked Call:

  • Lift handset of any phone within your system to hear dial tone.
  • Dial #77 to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial extension number against which the call is parked and the call is reconnected.

CALL PICKUP lets you answer a ringing phone within your designated group.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial *72 and call is connected to your phone.

CALL WAITING alerts you while you are on a call that another call is waiting. You are able to hold the first call and answer the second call.

To Activate:

  • You hear a call waiting tone while you are on a call.
  • Press LINK or FLASH and the first call is held so that you can speak to the second caller.
  • Press LINK or FLASH to alternate between the two callers.

CONFERENCE CALLING lets you arrange conference calls from your phone for a specified number of people and yourself.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone and dial *75 to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial first number and after they answer, press LINK or FLASH to hear special dial tone and dial *75.
  • Dial LINK or FLASH and call the second number, you may talk with them privately and then dial LINK or FLASH and all three of you will be in conference.
  • Continue by dialing LINK or FLASH, the next number you are calling, and LINK or FLASH *75 etc.

GROUP INTERCOM lets you use one or two digit numbers to call members of your intercom group.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone, press # plus the one or two digit number assigned to the station you are calling.

LAST NUMBER REDIAL lets you automatically call the last number you dialed by entering a special code.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial *82 and the last number called from that set is redialed.

 

MAKE SET BUSY lets you temporarily make your phone appear busy to incoming calls.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear special dial tone, dial *74 and you will hear confirmation tone.

To Deactivate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone, dial #74 to hear confirmation tone.

MESSAGE WAITING alerts you by means of a stuttered dial tone.

 

RING AGAIN allows you to instruct the phone system to notify you when the person you called is no longer busy with another call and routes the call for you automatically.

To Activate:

  • When you hear busy tone, press LINK or FLASH to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial *79 and you will hear confirmation tone.

To Respond To Notification:

  • You hear distinctive ringing.
  • Lift handset to hear ringing as call is routed.

To Cancel:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial #79 and you will confirmation tone.

SPEED CALLING lets you dial a one or two digit code to dial frequently called numbers.

To Program:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial *80/81 to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial code by which number is to be stored along with the phone number.
  • Press # and you will hear confirmation tone.

To Activate:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone, dial * and code number.

To Change:

  • You are able to program a number over an existing number.
  • Follow instructions above for "To Program."

To Delete:

  • Lift handset to hear dial tone.
  • Dial *80/81 to hear special dial tone.
  • Dial code by which number is stored.
  • Press # and you will hear confirmation tone.
